Today I read that in Italy a restaurant was taken to court for presenting live lobster on a bed of ice, allowing them to die slowly out of the water. The Italian court deemed this cruel and levied a 688 Euro fine on the restaurant. I guess the court was unaware that the rest of us routinely toss a live lobster into boiling water and then EAT them, which is apparently not cruel. I for one hope that someone will soon discover a means to communicate with lobsters and settle this cruelty issue once and for all. While we are at it we should also check with cows about the whole whacking them on the head thing.
Worth noting, Rome recently passed an ordinace against goldfish bowls, citing them as cruel, and the Italian city of Turin fines dog owners 500 euros if they fail to walk their dogs at least 3 times per day.
Amazing what lengths people will go to avoid thinking about the bigger issues in life.....
